“Quran Says…”: Karnataka Right Wing Leader Charged For Hate Speech

Discourse made in Kolar on July 1, when certain individuals were fighting the killing of designer Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur

Bengaluru: Police in Kolar in Karnataka have enlisted a body of evidence against Keshav Murthy, state convener of an outfit called Hindu Jagaran Vedike, and others for offering supposedly disparaging expressions against the Quran and Muslims.

The grumbling was stopped by Zameer Ahamad, leader of the association Anjuman-e-Islamia.

In a discourse on July 1 — when a few Hindu activists were fighting the killing of designer Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan — Keshav Murthy said, “The Quran says kill individuals. All in all, wouldn’t you say the people who read the Quran will follow something very similar? The people who read the Quran are fear based oppressors.”

Tailor Kanhaiya Lal was killed last month by two men after he posted via web-based entertainment in help for suspended BJP pioneer Nupur Sharma, who had made against Prophet Mohammed and Islam.

Remarks

The body of evidence against Keshav Murthy has been enrolled under Indian Penal Code segments 153A (advancing ill will between gatherings), 153B (incitement with plan to cause a mob) and 295A (insulting strict sentiments), among others.
